OUR FOUNDER
- Brigadier M K Rao was born on 14 Sep 1914. He did his early schooling in erstwhile Madras Presidency, moving from place to place along with his father who worked in PWD under the British Administration.
- Educational Qualification 1937-1939:
- Aug 1935, B.Sc from Madras University
- Nov 1937, B.Sc (Hons), from Annamalai University
- Nov 1939, Master of arts, Annamalai University.
- He completed his Master in 1939 and went to England to acquire his Engineer degree from University of London
- In 1939 he was sent to England by his father for further studies. In England, he acquired
- 1939, Associate Engineer of City & Guides, London Institute.
- July 1939, B.Sc (Engineering), from University of London
- July 1941, Member of Institute of Radio Engineers, England
- On his return to India, he joined the Army on 07 March1942 (during the Second World War). He did a very brief stint in Kohima, during the Japanese invasion. Later, he was granted permanent commission and joined the Corps of EME. He was granted Captain’s Commission by the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad.
- In May 1949, He became an associate Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, England. Later, in 1961, he became a member of the Institute of engineers (India), Chartered Electrical Engineer, England. In 1972, he was given Fellowship of Institute of engineers (India). He also became a member of the British Institute of Management, in April 1972. His educational pursuits did not wane.
- During his command of 502 Army Base Workshop, Kirkee, form 1952-54, with his zeal, enthusiasm, dedication and inspiration to his sub-ordinates, he set up a record for the maximum no. of tanks being repaired a month. In 1959, he set up the Technical services Group at Secunderabad.
- He joined BHEL, Hyderabad in 1967, after a brief stint with Mysore Iron and steel Works Bhadravathi in 1966-67 post retirement. He was keen to do something for his fellowmen (others) in Hyderabad.
- In 1961, he started with the idea of trying to establish a separate colony for Defence Officers, including those associated with Defence establishments, called Armed Forces Officers Cooperative Society – AFOCHS Ltd. He helped the sister colonies like – Vayupuri and Defence Colony to start too.
- From 1972 till his demise in Sep 1989, he worked for setting up of:-
- School for the defence personnel – Ramakrishna Vidyalaya
- Post Office – Sainikpuri Post Office
- Banks – Andhra Bank, Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank
- Transportation Services – APSRTC route 37 / 34/ 24.
- Medical services – for construction workers extended to others later as Sarada Devi Clinic, now Sarada Devi Hospital.
